Richard Florida: Geography Is Destiny (BUSINESS WEEK)
Trying to connect the dots between people and places, Richard Florida, a Carnegie Mellon University professor, has stirred up theories on why Geography is important to cities and their industries. Florida analyzed factors and created:
- ...a Creativity Index that ranks U.S. cities based on how well they foster technology, tolerance, and talent, which Florida calls "the three Ts."
Florida has written a few books on the subject so far, with another coming next year. His theories has stirred up the pot by including factors such as homosexual appeal of a city. For the record, Austin, Tex., San Francisco, and Seattle are the leaders in that index. I wonder what my hometown of Knoxville would rank. New York City hit in at 20.
